Dustin Yellin: Psychogeographies
Lowe Art Museum, Miami FL
February 27, 2027 — January 2, 2027 | Miami, FL
An insatiably curious, interdisciplinary thinker, Dustin Yellin references an array of artistic movements, historical figures, cultural touchstones, and natural phenomena in his work. Enlightenment taxonomies, natural history, political science, entomology, Dadaism, Surrealism, and deep time reverberate through his Psychogeographies, as do the self-contained universes of Joseph Cornell’s (1903-1972) iconic “box” assemblages and the harrowing yet compelling hell-on-earth paintings of Hieronymus Bosch (ca. 1450-1516). Like the three examples featured at the Lowe, Yellin’s multi-media sculptures oscillate seamlessly between two and three dimensions, exploiting the full expressive potential of collage, painting, and glass and, ultimately, revealing a cartography of cultural DNA through their materiality.
Dustin Yellin: Psychogeographies was made possible by the Palley Family; Linnie E. Dalbeck Foundation; the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; Mosaicist, Inc.; the Lowe Advisory Council; the City of Coral Gables; Beaux Arts Miami; and Lowe Members. This exhibition was sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts.
